Monday, May 3 was Senior Night at Wootton. Prior to the match, The Wootton Volleyball community recognized the contributions of the five seniors on the boys volleyball team: Zo Asmail, Kevin Liang, Tony Malinauskas, Xinyuan Wang and Clayton Zhang. Each in their own way, these seniors have played a major role in Wootton's boys volleyball team success during the past two years. Consider, for the past two years, the team has:
- Compiled a regular season match record of 23-1
- A regular season set record of 71-4
- Twice been seeded #1 in the MCPS playoffs
Quite an accomplishment for these seniors. Going into the final regular season home match of the year against a good blocking Poolesville team (which had 7 seniors playing their last match), the Patriots knew that the #1 playoff seed was on the line. A 3-0 win would clinch top seed.
With the seniors leading the way, Wootton went deep into its bench to pull out the win and a home court advantage through the semifinals.
The Patriots will host rival (and #16 seed) Churchill in Round 1 of the MCPS playoffs on Wednesday, May 5 at 5:15 pm. Fans will enjoy a Wootton double header in Round 1, as the #6 seed Wootton Coed team will host Magruder in a 7 pm match on the same evening.
